While serving as a judge, he worked in the Secretariat of the Supreme Court of Japan, handling international liaison matters. Spent a year conducting overseas research at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in Texas, USA. In addition, he was seconded to the Ministry of Justice and spent two years in the Kingdom of Cambodia as a long-term expert.
